PPSEAWA-USA Committed To Gender Equality

Release Date

The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are eight targets established by world leaders at the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000 to address the world’s major development challenges by 2015. PPSEAWA-International has been actively working to raise awareness of the UN Millennium Development Goals since the International Conference in New Zealand in 2007. Millennium Development Goal Three (MDG 3): Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment guarantees that women have equal opportunities to make their lives, and the lives of their families better. USA President Roseann Levy and MDG3 coordinator Akari Yamada collected information from local chapters in Chicago, LA, New York, and Toledo, and from USA Scholarship Chairperson Teresa Hintzke, for the national assessment report. This four-page report, “Promoting Gender Equality,” was distributed at the International Conference in Bali this past spring.* A slideshow of various USA projects also accompanied copies of the report at our booth/table throughout the conference, and we received a lot of positive feedback from other national associations.
