The Toledo Chapter Board met during the summer to create the calendar for the 2005-06 year. The presenter at our first meeting in September was Nandini Bhattacharya, chair of Women and Gender Studies at U of Toledo, who spoke to us about women in India today. In October, we were inspired by Lorna Gonsalves, an activist for justice, peace and equality. We look forward to programs on Buddhism from a woman’s viewpoint, and an update on Afghan culture, expanding on our experience with the ten Afghan women who visited last year.
We were pleased to host the fall PPSEAWA USA board meeting and a reception for our board as well as local members. Preparing for the benefit luncheon consumed much of our time during the fall season.
Beyond that, we expect to meet with other international visitors through our contact with the Great Lakes Consortium, the local universities, sister cities programs, etc. We expect to consider further projects to assist women and children, with focus on education.
