New York chapter has over 100 members and our proximity to the UN and the diversity of New York provides us with an array of opportunities. Our new president is Seiko Oshima Ichida.
2007 began with a lecture by noted Chinese medical expert and teacher, Dr. Guidan Bai. The meeting room was overflowing and the audience was riveted by the doctor’s explanation of traditional Chinese medicine.
In February, we celebrated the Year of the Boar with a reception at the Taiwan Mission. It is an imposing new building in the heart of New York’s bustling business area. Alisha Sachathep, the PPSEAWA representative from Thailand who is attending the meetings of the UN Commission on the Status of Women spoke on discrimination and violence against young girls in Thailand. We were so pleased to host this promising young lady. The Education Fund of the PPSEAWA-USA provided two-thirds of her expenses and the NY chapter has provided the remainder. Several NY members also entertained her during her brief visit.
