Karen Miller, of the Benevolent Society, speaker at the PPSEAWA NSW June meeting and no stranger to fundraising having done so in the UK, NZ and Australia over a fourteen year period including the last x 2½ years for the Society in Australia.
In a fascinating discourse, Karen traced the history and functions of the 195 years charitable body with its 900 volunteers and 800 staff. The Society, which deals with poverty, abuse, disadvantage, disability, mental illness, drug dependency and need at all levels, was the main original social welfare system. Since then, as needs have grown, it now liaises with other welfare agencies and government in the wonderful work it does.
Thank you, Karen
