President’s Message

Release Date

Dear PPSEAWA Hawai’i sisters,

I would like to wish you all a Happy PPSEAWA 90th anniversary! In conjunction with the Commission on the Status of Women 62nd annual conference at the United Nations, PPSEAWA International sisters from Japan, Canada, Taiwan, Malaysia, USA, Fiji, Hawai’i, and Thailand celebrated this auspicious occasion in New York City. It was a wonderful evening of celebration with friendship, food, and celebratory presentations by women representatives from each member nation present as well as our international President, Dato Rahmah Abdul Hamid. President of the USA chapter, Akari Yamada, was the MC for the evening.

As you all know, it was in Honolulu in August, 1928 that the first women-only Pan-Pacific Women’s Conference was held. 183 women attended representing 13 international chapters. Hawaii was granted independent status as the founder of what is now the Pan Pacific Southeast Asia Women’s Association International.

I would like to invite you all to attend PPSEAWA Hawai’i’s celebration of this 90th anniversary on Saturday, May 12 at the Outrigger Canoe Club. We will be celebrating with lunch, fellowship, reminiscences from our long time members and a delicious cake.

Hope to see you all at the celebration and annual meeting!
